The Lace Market is the old warehouse quarter on the east side of the city centre, and it is where I send single professionals and couples who want to walk to work and live somewhere with a bit of history. The red brick lace warehouses have been converted into flats, offices and bars, and there are newer blocks around the edges.
Almost everything to rent here is a flat. The conversions have high ceilings and big windows; the newer blocks have better insulation and lifts. Ask which you are looking at.
It is a ten minute walk to the station and the Old Market Square, and the tram stops at the Lace Market for the QMC, the university and Beeston in one direction and the north of the city in the other.
It is lively at weekends, parking is scarce, and there are no gardens. For a first year in Nottingham it is usually the right first stop.
