Cowley is the value option of the three, and in Oxford that means a house with a garden at a price that would be ordinary in most of the country. It is two to three miles south east of the centre, it has Templars Square and the Cowley Road for shops, and it is next to the BMW Mini plant, the Oxford Business Park and the science parks, which is why a lot of the engineers and researchers I place end up here.
The housing is mostly 1930s semis and inter-war terraces with gardens and driveways, plus Victorian terraces nearer the Cowley Road and some newer developments. Florence Park, on the Iffley Road side, is the pocket families ask for by name.
It is more mixed and less pretty than North Oxford, and the Cowley Road end is lively and studenty. For couples and young families who want space and a short commute to the business parks or the hospitals, it is the one I show first.

Buses run along the Cowley Road and the Iffley Road into the centre in fifteen to twenty minutes. By bike the centre is twenty minutes and the John Radcliffe fifteen. By car the ring road is five minutes for the A34 to Harwell and the M40 to Heathrow, and the business parks and the Mini plant are a few minutes away.
