Jericho is the small grid of Victorian streets between Walton Street and the canal, just north west of the centre, and it is where I send single professionals and couples who want to walk everywhere and live somewhere with a bit of life. It has Walton Street for cafes, restaurants and the cinema, the canal towpath on its doorstep, and the colleges five minutes away.
The housing is mostly small Victorian terraces, let whole or split into flats, with a few newer blocks along the canal. Gardens are yards; parking is residents’ permits and very tight.
It is a ten minute walk to the station and the centre, a fifteen minute cycle to the John Radcliffe, and a few minutes to the Science Area and the university departments on the north side. It is one of the most expensive parts of the city per square foot, so you pay for the location rather than the space.
