Crosby is the one people do not expect. It is a seaside town eight miles north of the centre with a long beach, Antony Gormley’s iron men standing in the sea, a village centre with independent shops, and a railway line that puts Lime Street half an hour away. It is in Sefton rather than Liverpool, which matters for council tax and schools.
The housing is mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis in the village and towards the station, with bigger houses along the coast at Blundellsands and smaller terraces towards Waterloo. Most houses have gardens; driveways are rarer on the older streets.
It is the value option of the three because you get more house for the money than in south Liverpool, but it is not a compromise. People who move here for the price tend to stay for the beach.
The commute is the trade-off. Thirty minutes by train is fine for the centre, but driving to the hospitals, the airport or Halewood means crossing the whole city.

From Matthew
Blundellsands and Crosby station and Waterloo station are both on the Merseyrail Northern line, with trains into Liverpool Central in around half an hour. By car the centre is thirty to forty minutes depending on the docks road traffic, and the airport and Halewood are the far side of the city, so check the journey times on the map before assuming.
