Liverpool is the city I get asked about most after Manchester, and the honest answer is that it is cheaper, friendlier and smaller than people expect, in a good way. It is forty minutes from Manchester by train, it has a waterfront that most cities would kill for, and the people I place here, at the hospitals, the universities, Jaguar Land Rover at Halewood and the growing science and tech employers around the Knowledge Quarter, tend to stay longer than they planned.
The shape of the city matters. The centre is compact and walkable, the south of the city along the Mersey is where most families end up, and the coast to the north is a different world again, with beaches and a village feel twenty minutes from Lime Street.
I have picked three areas that cover the usual briefs: the Baltic Triangle for city living, Allerton for families who want parks, schools and a village high street, and Crosby for anyone who wants the sea on their doorstep and more space for their money. None of this is a ranking. The figures are from live listings and public data, and the Blueprint works out which one fits you.
