The Ouseburn is the valley on the east side of the city centre, between the Quayside and Byker, and it is where Newcastle keeps its creative side: music venues, breweries, a city farm, studios and some of the best pubs in the city. It is where I send single professionals and couples who want to be close to the centre but somewhere with a bit of personality.
The housing is mostly flats, in converted warehouses on the valley sides and newer blocks along the river towards the Quayside. Quality varies by building. There are a few streets of terraced houses on the Byker side, but flats are the market.
It is a fifteen minute walk to Central station and the centre, and the RVI and the universities are twenty to twenty five minutes on foot or a short bus ride.
It is lively on Friday and Saturday nights, and parking is scarce. If you want quiet, ask which side of the building you are on.

Central station is a fifteen to twenty minute walk along the Quayside. Byker and Manors Metro stations are on the edge of the valley for the coast and the airport line. By car the Coast Road and the A1 are easy from here, so Cobalt is twenty minutes outside the peaks.
