Hillsborough is the value option of the three. It is three miles north west of the centre, it has a proper high street, a big park with a walled garden, and a tram that runs into the centre in under twenty minutes. Most people outside Sheffield know the name for the football ground, and the area around it is a solid, friendly suburb that has picked up in the last few years.
The housing is mostly stone and brick terraces and 1930s semis, with gardens on most and driveways on some. Houses are the market here; flats are rarer. It is where I show couples and young families who want a house with a garden and a short tram ride, without paying south west Sheffield prices.
The trade-off is that it is on the opposite side of the city from the Hallamshire, the university and the Peak, so check the commute for your actual job rather than the centre.

The Supertram runs from Hillsborough and Leppings Lane into the centre in around eighteen minutes and on to Meadowhall. Buses run along Middlewood Road and Penistone Road. By car the centre is fifteen minutes outside the peaks and the M1 north is twenty. The AMRC is thirty to forty minutes across the city.
